Redefining industrial services for over 40 years

DIW celebrated its 40-year anniversary in 2002 – an achievement that no other technical services company can match. The following overview shows important milestones in the history of our company.

1962
Foundation of the “Kesselreinigungsgesellschaft Reichenberger & Co.,” by Peter Schuck and Werner Reichenberger. Cleaning of heating and hot water boilers.

In the 1960s
The introduction of a new service: Regular specialized maintenance of machines and facilities by third parties. First industrial client: Daimler Benz, Gaggenau plant, cleaning of painting systems. Company name changed to Deutsche Industriewartung GmbH, Reichenberger & Co.

In the 1970s
Continuous technical training and education for employees. Extensive network of locations throughout Southern Germany. Contracts with further major customers: AEG, Audi, BASF, BMW, Bosch, Bundesbahn, IBM, MBB, Siemens.

1985
Sales of DM 115 million, name changed to Deutsche Industriewartung GmbH & Co. KG.

1986
Salamander and Voith buy DIW. DM 125 million in sales, 30 locations, 2,000 full-time employees, 5,000 part-time employees. Services: Industrial maintenance, facilities cleaning, building and operational technology, vehicle maintenance, fire damage repair, preventive maintenance.

1987
Foundation of DIW Österreich (Austria), sales DM 140 million.

1988
Expansion of services to include disassembly/reassembly, technical cleaning, environmental technology: asbestos removal. Sales of DM 150 million, 36 locations.

1990
Sales exceed the DM 200 million level, 45 locations.

1994
Expansion of services: Preventive maintenance planning for EDP, filtration of coolants and lubricants, services for painting facilities, stress relief for machine tools.

1996
Innovative technical cleaning processes, e.g. dry ice blasting.

1997
Acquisition of Indumont GmbH and Fach GmbH.

1998
EnBW joins as an additional partner. Sales exceed the DM 400 million mark. Foundation of DIW Deutsche Industriewartung AG. 80 locations.

1999
Sales exceed the DM 500 million level.

2000
Merger of Fach GmbH with DIW Deutsche Industriewartung GmbH to form DIW Instandhaltung GmbH, Vienna.

DIW has a 25.2% holding in Hörmann Industrietechnik GmbH.

In April of this year, Voith AG increased its shares in DIW Deutsche Industriewartung GmbH. An option to purchase an additional 5% of shares in DIW in 2002 was arranged. The new business field “Industry services” became the fourth business unit under the name “Voith Industrial Services”.

2001
Establishment of subsidiaries in Eastern Europe.

2002
The idea of combining conventional facility management tasks with sophisticated technical services was born in 2002 with the establishment of the Industrial Maintenance Management Alliance. DIW, Hörmann and Voith form an alliance to supplement areas of expertise while eliminating any gaps in service. This concept is continued today with the cooperation between the Facility and Process areas within Voith Industrial Services.

2005
Voith Industrial Services buys the American Premier Group. Premier is a global specialist for production-relevant services in the automotive industry. Premier primarily serves North and South America as well as Northern and Western Europe. DIW’s European range of products and services is supplemented by the regional presence, long-standing client relationships and product portfolio of Premier around the world.

2006
DIW Deutsche Industriewartung AG acquires majority stake of Hörmann Industrietechnik. DIW Deutsche Industriewartung AG (DIW), a subsidiary company of Voith Industrial Services, has acquired the majority stake of Hörmann Industrietechnik as of January 1, 2006. Hörmann Industrietechnik is a specialist for complex, technical industrial services with a focus on the automotive industry. The company employs approximately 1800 staff across 9 countries and posted sales of about Euro 150 million in the last fiscal year. Hörmann's regional focus is on Europe.

2007
Voith Industrial Services has achieved a major order from an international automotive manufacturer to manage operations at all eight of the customers’  European assembly plants. The order, which is being handled by Facility Service Europe, is the first of such a contract for which the customer invited tenders covering multiple factories and countries
